BIB logo oranje klein transparant heel heel klein During pregnancy your body changes fast, so during these nine months it’s important to consciously adjust to these changes, and know and feel what’s happening.

BIB logo oranje klein transparant heel heel klein To use your body effectively in daily life you will need strong legs as a basis, and a relaxed pelvis from which the spine can freely stretch up. This will help prevent physical complaints like aches around the spine, pelvis or stomach, or feeling cramped and short of breath.

BIB logo oranje klein transparant heel heel klein By stretching stiff and shortened muscles you will give yourself the opportunity to relax and position yourself in various postures, which is vital if your belly is growing, or during a (vertical) childbirth.

It’s important to learn to keep on breathing while discovering, feeling or exploring tensions. If you practice this during the yoga classes it will help you to surrender to the power of the contractions during childbirth. It may also be helpful if you’re able to and not be afraid to make sounds.

Your body, but also your mind, is going through an intensive proces of development. By expanding your inner awareness you will get more insight into yourself, your body and your life.

BIB logo oranje klein transparant heel heel klein Knowing beforehand the possibilities involved in the hours of birthing and the final birth is a must.

Part 1

  • Learning how to focus on breathing and relaxation during the pregnancy will determine how you deal with your feelings during labour and birth.
  • Grounding and strengthening exercises to empower the mother to find the trust in her ability to give birth
  • Learning to trust each other’s strength, ability and skill will help you both in letting go of control and fear. It will inspire fathers/partners to maximize their involvement during pregnancy and labour.

Part 2

  • Includes practical work on positions, partner participation and massage.
  • Exercises to develop fitness, better posture and therefore optimal positioning of the baby for birth
  • Prevention and relieving of pelvic instability, pains and sciatica, or other minor ailments, e.g. heartburn, oedema, and hard belly.
  • Breathing awareness, sound and deep relaxation for use in labour.

Part 3

  • Learn many practical ways to assist at birth, including natural upright positions, natural forms of pain relief, relaxation and ways to stimulate an overdue or slow labour.
  • Learn how to minimize the risk of a long, difficult or complicated labour, episiotomy or tearing.
  • Learn how to make informed decisions, understand medical interventions and medication.
  • Learn how to create a calm and reassuring atmosphere during labour, whether you are having a natural active birth in hospital or at home, planning to use a water pool or considering an epidural.

Attendance recommended between 12 and 36 weeks.

Start part 1 & 2 before 20 weeks echo if possible.

Suitable for first time parents or excellent refresher course.

The workshops need not be followed in this particular sequence, you can choose the dates as you like, or choose private sessions.

 

Times: Wednesdays from 19:30 – 22:00 hrs, in 2018 (Jacob van Lennepkade)

Fridays, from 19:30 - 22:00 hrs, in 2019 (Baarsjeweg 277, 1058 AD, Amsterdam)

The door opens 15 minutes before course begins.

Cancellation and rebooking

Within 5 working days prior to the date (Monday to Friday) = 100% refund, minus a € 25 cancellation fee.

Later than 5 working days no refund possible.

Participants are asked to wear loose comfortable clothing

Patricia Vriens has more than 34 years of experience as a Mensendieck therapist, yoga teacher and practioner of Bewust Bevallen (conscious childbirth) and as a doula. Her early interest in childbirth focused her studies in the fields of natural healing, yoga and movement in Italy, Japan and the Netherlands. Certified and very experienced in coaching parents. Registred and certified as a pelvic pain therapist; trained with Cecile Röst. She herself is a mother of four.
